Accepting online payments in Morocco

Payments are almost always what delays a store. They get prepared alongside development, never after it.

Who does what in a transaction

In Morocco, card payments run through a bank gateway: your site never takes the money itself. It hands the buyer to a secure page, the bank authenticates the cardholder, then returns a result to your site — accepted or declined.

That is good news for your liability: you store no card numbers. It is a constraint on development: your site has to handle a declined result, an abandoned attempt, and a customer closing the browser at the wrong moment.

The application starts early

An online acceptance contract is not a five-minute form. The bank reviews your business, your company documents and your website before switching payments on. Allow several weeks between filing and activation, and start the process at the beginning of the project, not the night before launch.

Exact timelines vary by bank and by file: we do not publish a number, because one we saw on a single project would not hold for yours. Ask your account manager at the first meeting.

What the bank looks for on your site

These are asked for routinely. Preparing them in advance avoids a week of back-and-forth.

  • Terms and conditions of sale that are readable and reachable from every page.
  • An explicit delivery and returns policy: timescales, areas, procedure.
  • Legal notices clearly identifying the company that is selling.
  • Unambiguous pricing, with taxes and delivery either included or clearly stated.
  • HTTPS throughout and a complete, working checkout — confirmation page included.

Do not depend on one payment method

A share of your buyers will not use a card, out of habit or caution. Offering cash on delivery as well, plus a direct channel — WhatsApp, phone — recovers orders a card-only checkout would lose.

And if online payment is not live at launch, that is no reason to hold the store back: open with cash on delivery and connect the card gateway when the application completes.

And at Noor Studio Agency?

We build the checkout so it works with or without an active gateway, so the bank application is never what stops a store from opening.
