Setting up Google Business Profile in Morocco

For a local business it is often the most profitable digital channel there is — and the most poorly filled in.

Why it matters more than your home page

When someone searches for a service near them, Google shows a map and three businesses first. That block takes a large share of the clicks before the first classic result even appears — and it is filled from your listing, not your website.

A complete, active listing can therefore bring in calls before your site ranks at all. It is the one local visibility lever that is free, immediate and entirely under your control.

Verification: allow for the delay

A listing is not public until Google has confirmed you really are the business you claim. Verification happens by post with a code, by phone, by email or by video depending on the case.

The postal route takes the longest, and it is often the one offered. Create the listing at the start of a website project rather than the end: the two run in parallel, and the listing is often visible before the site is.

What actually moves the needle

Local ranking depends mostly on three things: how well your category matches the search, how far you are from the person searching, and your prominence. You cannot change the distance; you can act on the other two.

  • Choose the primary category carefully. It is the single most decisive field on the listing, and the one most often filled in carelessly.
  • List your services individually, with real descriptions. A listing that spells out what it offers is understood far better than one that does not.
  • Add real photos, regularly. Exterior, interior, team, work. A listing with no photos inspires the confidence of a shop with its shutters down.
  • Ask for reviews, and reply to all of them. Including the bad ones, calmly: replies are read by future customers far more than by the people who wrote them.
  • Keep name, address and phone identical everywhere — listing, website, directories, social. Inconsistencies dilute the signal.

The expensive mistakes

Three recur constantly: stuffing the business name with keywords, which risks suspension; creating several listings for one address, which splits your reviews and signals; and abandoning the listing once it is verified.

The last is the most common and the most costly. A listing is a living channel: current hours, recent photos, replies to reviews. A frozen listing slides.
