Website redesign: when should you rebuild?
"It looks a bit old" is not a reason to rebuild a site. Here are the reasons that are — and the technical trap that costs the most.

The real reasons to rebuild
A site gets rebuilt when it prevents something, not when it is disliked. The following are measurable and justify the spend.
- It generates no enquiries. No calls, no forms, no messages. A site that produces nothing is a cost, not an asset.
- It is painful on mobile. That is where most of your visitors arrive, and the version Google assesses first.
- You cannot change anything on it without calling a supplier back — or worse, without anyone knowing how.
- It cannot hold what you now sell. A new offer, a new audience, a new language.
- It is a liability: unmaintained, un-updated, or built on something that has been abandoned.
The bad reasons
"The site is three years old" is not a diagnosis. A well-built, maintained site can serve far longer, and a redesign resets search equity that took months to build.
"A competitor rebuilt theirs" is not one either. Before rebuilding everything, look at where your enquiries actually come from: often a single page generates all of them, and it needs improving rather than replacing.
The trap: losing your rankings on launch day
This is the most expensive mistake in a redesign, and it is entirely avoidable. When page addresses change with no redirects, every URL Google knows becomes a dead end, and accumulated visibility vanishes overnight.
The remedy is three steps: list every existing URL before starting, map each to its new address, and put permanent redirects in place on launch day. A supplier whose quote never mentions that plan has not planned for it.
Full rebuild or staged
Rebuilding everything at once is sometimes right — when the technical base is dead, or when the brand changes completely. But it is not the only option, and rarely the least risky.
The alternative: identify the two or three pages carrying the revenue, rebuild those first, measure, then extend. You spend where the return is proven, instead of betting a whole budget on an intuition.
And at Noor Studio Agency?
We begin every redesign with an inventory of existing URLs and a redirect plan. It is the first line of the schedule, not an end-of-project task.
