Cash on delivery: designing an online shop for how Morocco buys.

Many Moroccan shoppers still prefer to pay when the parcel arrives. Instead of fighting it, the best shops design for it: confirmation, delivery and returns built around cash.
In Morocco, cash on delivery remains a common way to pay for online orders. For many shoppers it removes a risk: they see the product before paying. For the shop, it brings its own challenges, from parcels refused at the door to cash collected by couriers. The answer is to design the whole process around it.
Confirm every order
A quick confirmation by phone or WhatsApp before shipping filters out mistakes and impulse orders. It is also a chance to check the address, the size or the colour, and to reassure the customer.
Reduce refused parcels
- Honest product photos and descriptions, so the parcel matches expectations.
- A clear delivery time, and a message when the parcel ships.
- Delivery fees and conditions shown before the order, not at the door.
- A simple exchange or return policy, written clearly on the site.
Choose delivery partners carefully
Coverage, delivery times, how and when cash is transferred back to you, and how refused parcels are returned: these details affect your margin as much as the price of shipping. Track performance by city and adjust.
Offer card payment too
Card payment is growing, and some customers prefer it. Offering both, sometimes with a small advantage for paying online, lets you serve everyone and gradually reduce the share of cash.
Measure the real numbers
Count confirmed orders, delivered orders and refused parcels, not just orders placed. That is where you see what the shop really earns.
Design for how people buy today, and leave the door open for how they will buy tomorrow.
