Why most websites are built backwards.

Too many projects begin with a template and end with a message. The order should be reversed.
A common project starts like this: choose a theme, fill the sections, write copy to fit the boxes. The result looks like a website. It rarely works like one.
Start with the decision you want
Before layouts, ask what a visitor should believe, feel and do. Book a table. Request a quote. Trust a supplier with a large order. Each of those needs a different structure, a different tone and a different amount of proof.
Strategy is the quiet phase of a project, and the one that saves the most time. It decides what the homepage argues, which pages deserve to exist, and what can be left out entirely.
Design is the answer. Strategy is making sure it answers the right question.
Build in that order — decision, message, structure, design, code — and the website stops being a brochure. It becomes a tool.
